Zozo

Zozo

Life is hard but music is good.

Based in Istanbul but always on the move, Zozo (Nigar Zeynep) is a stalwart of the Turkish Electronic music community. She has grown to be one of the most out standings in her country and an indisputable name in the new wave of artists and DJ’s experimenting at the fringes of dance music. A tireless digger, she evokes hazy images and clear emotions by means of a colorful and powerful selection. Never leaving behind the sonic fusion that constitutes her cultural heritage, she reveals herself as a sorceress more than a DJ.

Her sets are always a mixed bag of influences which she unorthodoxly combines, disregarding preconceptions attached to any genre. Since the very origins, music has had for her many diverse and strong meanings: music as the material to build bridges between communities, as the hand that will dust off our asleep consciousness, a voice that will bring to life the importance of the values and emotions we tend to leave behind in the modern world.

Her path has always gone hand in hand with culture. After being musical director of spaces as Hush and Luzia, she is now devoted to encouraging the constant growth of the national scene by encouraging the flow of artists in and out of Turkey. Outwards, she is collaborator of the Lyon-based Macadam Mambo crew and has a residency in Sameheads, where she regularly hosts ground-breaking acts in a sincere attempt to foster underground talent and to support up-and-coming names. She is also a member of electronic music and art collective ‘Les Belles De Nuit’ founded in Zurich, supporting women and queer artists. Furthermore, her work has been featured on Resident Advisor, Crack Magazine, Groove Magazine, Dekmantel, Boiler Room, Dj Mag, Trax Magazine, The Ransom Note, Time Out and Krossfingers.

Following the motto ‘life is hard but music is good’ since an early age, she has a seasoned character and deep understanding of the dynamics of the dancefloor, with which she communicates with empathy. That has kept her busy on the weekends: she has brought her versatile taste to iconic dancefloors as Panorama Bar, Contact Tokyo, De School, Ankali Prague, Robert Johnson or Salon des Amateurs. She is also a regular in high-rated festivals as Berlin Atonal, Waking Life, Lente Kabinet, Flow Festival, Strange Sounds From Beyond, Dekmantel and its Selectors offshoot.
